Custom Bass C4 Xun Reveal

I am excited to give a very first look at the newest completed custom bass C4 wooden xun! This was an absolutely amazing build that has been in the works since earlier this year, and one of my highest profile xun builds yet, for a collector in The Netherlands who has a penchant for African blackwood ocarinas. The xun is made from an exquisite selection of 15-year air-dried African blackwood, with purpleheart and padauk accents through the center. The blackwood is absolutely stunning, with beautiful rich grain that is revealed in the light, even exhibiting a bit of chatoyance to it when you move it. The purpleheart and padauk accents make for a unique and beautiful contrast, cutting through the center of the blackwood halves for a clean and elegant look. The xun has a very nice heft to it, with a beautifully crisp timbre and sharp overtones, playing very easily and sweetly across the range. This is undoubtedly one of the finest xun I have made to date, and certainly a very rare wooden xun indeed, and the only one of its kind in the world.

For a fully in-depth overview of the background and progression of this build, as well as a close-up look in person with sound samples, you can check out the unveiling video and song demo videos for this build on the Bretti Musical Instruments YouTube channel (linked below). And if you would like your very own xun made of the woods of your dreams, feel free to reach out!
