Wooden Pendant Ocarina Unveiling – Batch 28 – Custom Soprano E5

I am pleased to unveil a look at the newest batch of wooden pendant ocarinas, and my first custom pendant ocarina build! This set, batch 28, consists of four custom soprano E5 pendants, SN 077-080, made from a beautiful selection of vibrant bloodwood for the body, clean yellowheart for the top, and my classic aromatic cedar mouthpiece.

The bloodwood exhibits a beautiful iridescence in the grain as you move it in the light, with a brilliant rich red color. There is also a very subtle black vein running vertically with the grain on the back of each ocarina, which in addition to the color and chatoyance, was something that caught my eye when selecting the board for this build. The yellowheart used for the top features a very fine, even, and uniform grain, and a nice light yellow color. Despite being a beautifully simple and understated ocarina in terms of aesthetic, its charming simplicity hides an incredible tone inside. The tone of this set is amazingly responsive, with rich texture, crystal clear clarity, and a stunning bird-like sweetness that just sings effortlessly across the range. Every ocarina in this set is also incredibly well matched, and in terms of aesthetics and playing response, are all virtually identical, and is one of my most matched pendant sets to date. The tone and response of this set is truly representative in what I try to strive for when making my pendants, and embodies the essence of what I try to capture sonically in these little pendants.

Full in-depth details of every ocarina, as well as the story behind the pendant development, features of the pendants, sound samples, and a full song demo from this batch is now available on the Bretti Musical Instruments YouTube page:
